How Pickleball Twist™ Was Born
The idea for Pickleball Twist™ began as a passion project between longtime friends who share a love for pickleball and social play.
Co-founder Danny Reed has spent more than a decade leading technology partnerships at YouTube and has extensive experience in product development and creative problem-solving. Through Pickleball Twist™, he has redirected his passion for creating meaningful experiences into a product designed to bring people together away from screens.
His co-founder, Dr. Janet Tomiyama, serves as the Marcie H. Rothman Presidential Chair of Food Studies at UCLA and is a professor in the Department of Psychology. Her research focuses on how social factors, stress, and well-being influence people’s lives. Drawing from principles of positive psychology, she helped shape Pickleball Twist™ into an experience that encourages enjoyment, social connection, and shared moments of fun.
The game itself also reflects the power of community. Friends and family contributed throughout its development, from beta-testing the cards to creating promotional content. The deck’s bright, distinctive artwork was created by San Francisco artist Jordan Kushins, giving the product the feel of a thoughtful gift rather than a traditional sports accessory.
