In outdoor living spaces, grilling is more than a task—it’s part of the experience. But for many grill owners, one small step continues to feel unnecessarily frustrating: covering the grill after use. Traditional grill covers, regardless of brand or price, tend to follow the same “bag-style” design, often requiring awkward handling and effort to put on and remove.

Grill Hoodie™, founded by Eugene Pressman, was created to rethink that routine. The brand’s mission is clear: replace the conventional bag-style grill cover with a free-standing, hoodie-style alternative that makes covering a grill faster, easier, and more practical for everyday use.

Built From a Real-World Frustration

Grill Hoodie™ began as a hands-on solution to a common problem. In the summer of 2019, Pressman started experimenting in his own backyard, cutting fabric, sketching ideas, and building a support stand from scratch. The goal was simple—create a grill cover that people would actually want to use consistently.

After years of iteration, including collaboration with an industrial designer and multiple rounds of testing, a refined prototype emerged in 2022. That same year, the design received a patent. Further testing led to adjustments in the stand and fastening system, helping shape the final version of the product.

By late 2024, production was underway, with an initial run of approximately 3,000 units. In August 2025, Grill Hoodie™ officially launched, marking the transition from a backyard concept to a commercially available product.

A Different Approach to Grill Covers

What sets Grill Hoodie™ apart is its structure. Rather than functioning as a single-piece bag, the product is designed as a two-part system:

  • Upper Section (Hoodie): Covers the top of the grill, including the dome and side shelves. This section rests on a stand positioned behind the grill, allowing it to be lifted on and off with minimal effort.
  • Lower Section (Vest): Wraps around the body of the grill and adjusts to fit a range of sizes. It features a front opening for access and can be detached when needed.

This setup allows users to uncover and re-cover their grill in seconds, without dragging material over surfaces or repositioning the entire cover each time.

Designed for Practical Use

Grill Hoodie™ focuses on usability, with features intended to simplify routine handling:

  • Stand-supported design keeps the cover elevated and readily accessible
  • Quick-release side buckles allow for easy fastening and removal without repeated adjustments
  • Adjustable straps help keep the cover secure in outdoor conditions
  • Front-opening vest section provides access to the grill without removing the entire cover

These elements aim to address the common issues associated with traditional covers, such as them being left on the ground, becoming dirty, or being difficult to reposition.

Addressing Common Industry Limitations

Across the grill cover category, most products operate in a similar way. They are designed as large, flexible covers that must be fully removed and reapplied each time. This often leads to inconsistent use, with covers being left off entirely or stored improperly.

Grill Hoodie™ approaches the problem differently by staying connected to the grill area via its stand. Because it remains in place and is easy to handle, it reduces the friction involved in using a cover at all. As the brand puts it, “If your cover isn’t a Grill Hoodie™ – then it’s just another bag!”

Designed for Outdoor Living Enthusiasts

The product is geared toward grilling enthusiasts, as well as homeowners who invest in their outdoor spaces. For those who view their patio or backyard as an extension of their home, convenience and presentation both matter.

Because the cover remains positioned neatly behind the grill rather than being stored elsewhere, it integrates more seamlessly into the overall layout of an outdoor setup.

A Founder With a Hands-On Perspective

Eugene Pressman’s background is unconventional for a product developer. Trained as a classical actor at The Juilliard School, he later worked in television writing, woodworking, and film post-production. His experience in hands-on crafts, including cabinet making and finish carpentry, played a role in developing the early prototypes of Grill Hoodie™.

After relocating from Los Angeles to Palm Desert, Pressman continued refining the concept, ultimately bringing it to market through a self-funded effort.

A New Category Within a Familiar Space

Grill Hoodie™ enters a category that has seen limited structural change over time. Rather than introducing new materials or surface-level features, the brand focuses on redesigning how a grill cover functions in everyday use.

With its patented, free-standing design and emphasis on ease of use, Grill Hoodie™ offers an alternative for those looking to simplify their outdoor routine.
