October of 2024 marked the announcement of Jennifer Lawrence’s second pregnancy, and fans are speculating that the actress recently gave birth. Lawrence and her husband, Cooke Maroney, brought home their first child, Cy, back in February of 2022 after tying the knot in 2019. Though Lawrence and Maroney have yet to confirm the news, rumors that she gave birth have been swirling around for about a week.
When Lawrence’s second pregnancy news dropped, a source told People that she was “thrilled to be pregnant again.” They noted, “She loves being a mom,” and “It feels like the perfect timing to her. Her son will [be] 3 when the new baby arrives.”
A New York City Outing
On Sunday, March 16, Lawrence and Maroney were spotted taking a stroll in New York City. The couple was cozied up with their arms linked as Lawrence wore a navy blue trench coat, cardigan, and scarf. She topped off the look with a large leopard print purse and opted to style her straight, blonde hair down. Meanwhile, Maroney was sporting a black pea coat, a sweater, green slacks, and a pair of Vans sneakers.
Prior to the couple’s recent New York City outing, the actress hadn’t been photographed since early February—contributing to the rumors that she recently gave birth. On February 12, she wore a long leopard print coat while still evidently pregnant.
Balancing Acting and Motherhood
Lawrence has been open about her journey as a mother. In her June 2023 interview with Cameron Diaz for Interview Magazine, she explained that it’s not always easy juggling motherhood with the invasiveness of being a high-profile celebrity.
She noted the difficulties of balancing work with motherhood. “I think about dipping out a lot when I’m working.” Lawrence didn’t just mean a particular project—she was referring to acting as a whole. “I’m like, ‘I’m not going to be doing this forever. I’m tired. This is hard.’”
Yet despite the fleeting thoughts, after taking some time off, she explained the siren call that always brings her back to acting. “Then you take a few months off, you read something terrific, and you’re like, ‘Oh my god, I have to make this.’”
Lawrence has contemplated what it means to have “a child that’s being born into a lifestyle that’s different from his friends.” Yet she mused, “But kids have advantages and disadvantages when they’re born, all of them. The best thing I can do is just make sure he knows he’s loved, and that he’s our number one priority, and try to be a good example of kindness.”
Contending With the Invasiveness of Fame
The actress was fully aware that it wouldn’t be easy. She explained, “I’m sure there will be challenges specifically from my choices and my lifestyle, and we’ll both have to confront that and deal with it when that day comes.”
Of course, her child’s safety is always Lawrence’s top concern. She said, “I do my best [to protect him]. I was so nervous when I was pregnant. I was getting paparazzi’d, and I was just like, ‘How the f*** am I not going to lose it on these guys when they’re taking a picture of my baby?’ Then once he was here, I realized that my energy is more important to him than anything else.”
Lawrence worked on getting more comfortable with being photographed, as there’s no way to avoid it unless she doesn’t go out at all. First and foremost, she doesn’t want Cy to pick up on any of that stress.
“So if he feels that I’m anxious before I leave the house, or I’m angry when we’re outside, that’s going to impact him,” Lawrence noted. “So it’s actually done the opposite, where I’ve gotten a little bit more zen and a little bit more relaxed with getting photographed, because I don’t have a choice. You just have to accept it, and take a deep breath, and walk. I don’t want him to inherit the anxiety and anger that I have.”
