In the United States, 44% of adults say they live in a household with at least one gun, while 32% say they personally own one. The main reason for gun ownership, according to those surveyed, is for home protection and statistics indicate gun owners span the ideological and societal spectrum.

Many people embrace their responsibilities as gun owners and take precautions to keep their firearms out of the hands of those who might cause themselves or others harm. Devices such as motion sensors give gun owners in search of more proactive ways to keep their property safe a more hands-on approach to security.

Modern motion sensors are not only easy to use but small enough to be tucked into even the most confined spaces. These devices monitor private areas and can even be programmed to send a real-time SMS text and email alert if the firearm is tampered with or there is unauthorized movement where it is stored.

Modern Day Gun Safety

Today’s parents want to protect their children and homes in a world that doesn’t always feel safe. Nicky Zabetian co-founded Kinisium with her husband, Mahboud Zabetian, for just that reason.

“When we started having kids some time ago, one of the first things we did was to make our house child-safe. Coffee table corners and sharp edges of furniture were padded. We installed safety inserts for power outlets and power strips,” she says. “Why should we stop worrying about keeping a home safe, just because the kids have gone from crawling and toddling, to running and riding bikes? We all need Kinis to continue to keep our kids safe.”

Kinisium created the Kinis, a compact motion sensor, to give parents peace of mind by developing reliable security technology that would provide an extra layer of protection for firearms.

Protecting Children and Gun Owners

In response to devastating shootings that have injured and killed many innocents, 35 states have passed CAP (Child Access Prevention) laws. These laws also aim to prevent accidental firearm deaths and injuries of children, youth suicides, and crimes with stolen firearms. CAP laws require that firearms be stored in secure locations to prevent access by children.

If a gun owner is found in violation of CAP laws, they can be charged criminally if a child uses the firearm to cause injury or death, or even uses the firearm without hurting anyone. Negligence by the gun owner will be punished with penalties that scale with the activity. Gun owners can also be hit with civil penalties for not adhering to CAP laws. Punishment and enforcement of the CAP laws vary depending on the jurisdiction.

Keeping Your Loved Ones Safe

Gun ownership is never something that should be taken lightly. If you are a gun owner, it is your responsibility to ensure your gun is stored in a secure and safe location. Security technology, such as motion sensors, can add an extra layer of security, giving you peace of mind that your gun will not fall into the wrong hands.
